The Bakery
From Berkeley to the world.
Avocado toast and banana bread are as much a part of social media as the like button. So why bagels?
Take the Californian town of Berkeley in the 1970's, a Teletype Model 33 terminal, a telephone line and an old computer. In the famous record shop Leopold's Records, this new kind of machine was made available to tech-savvy customers.
What was originally intended as a computerised bulletin board became the first social network in modern history. Questions from the community soon poured in. Especially the question: «Where are the bestBagels in Berkeley?» was a particularly popular question.
Just like today, more than 50 years later, in the heart of Zürich.
